IHE Delft Institute for Water Education

 

IHE Delft – Institute for Water Education is the coordinating institution of the COASTHazar Erasmus Mundus joint master’s. Formerly known as UNESCO-IHE, IHE Delft is the world’s largest international graduate water education institution, playing a pivotal role in the education and training of water professionals, contributing significantly to building and enhancing the capacity of organizations engaged in water and environmental domains. Operating under the auspices of UNESCO as a Category 2 centre, IHE Delft is renowned for its global leadership.

At present, IHE Delft offers and coordinates four Erasmus Mundus programs, all dedicated to the water sector, underscoring its international commitment. The IHE Delft Coastal Group has gained worldwide recognition for its collaboration with Deltares, contributing to the development of several cutting-edge coastal wave and sediment transport models. Additionally, the group actively participates in advancing the DELFT3D model, solidifying its position at the forefront of coastal research and innovation.

The University of Algarve, situated in Faro, the southernmost part of Portugal, boasts a picturesque location facing the Ria Formosa – a captivating lagoon and barrier islands system. Distinguished as the most international university in Portugal, it proudly hosts over 25% of international students, fostering a globally diverse academic environment. With a rich history dating back to 1993, the University of Algarve has been actively engaged in several Erasmus programmes, further enhancing its global outreach and collaborative initiatives.

The university is particularly renowned for its profound expertise in coastal and marine studies, placing a strong emphasis on pivotal areas such as coastal erosion and management. This includes comprehensive exploration of coastal evolution, risk assessment, and effective risk management strategies. The University of Algarve stands as a beacon of excellence in the realm of coastal and marine studies, offering a unique academic experience enriched by its international character and commitment to addressing critical challenges in coastal environments.

University of Cantabria

 

The University of Cantabria, situated in the charming city of Santander in Northern Spain. Partnered with its flagship institute, IHCantabria, the university possesses specialized knowledge in understanding the intricate behaviour of coastal zones and their responses to both natural and anthropogenic threats. At the forefront of coastal research, the University of Cantabria has actively developed cutting-edge methodologies and tools, dedicated to characterizing and diagnosing coastal processes, contributing to integrated coastal planning.

The university's focus extends to the comprehensive management and evaluation of risks, both natural and anthropogenic, in coastal areas. With a distinct international vocation, the University of Cantabria holds the prestigious title of being one of the first universities in Spain to receive recognition as an "International Excellence Campus." This acknowledgment underscores the institution's commitment to global collaboration and excellence in research and education.
